Product description: Ondřej Svoboda - Vladimír Soukenka
The monograph about scenographer and architect Vladimír Soukenka features his theatre work from the early drama productions in the 1980s in the Working People Theatre in Gottwaldov (now Municipal Theatre in Zlín) until nowadays. There have been two significant landmarks in his works: his contract in Laterna Magika to which he was invited by Professor Josef Svoboda, who taught him at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, as well as being the television architect. He made good use of his experience in stage designs for opera and ballet performances in Ústí nad Labem, Plzeň and Brno. His work proves his interest in the kinetics of the stage and the effort to apply the ‘movie’ approach in theatre – viewer’s concentration on details on the stage. Everything is demonstrated in his best opera productions, The Magic Flute (1990) and The Queen of Spades (1995), and in his innovative stage design of Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová (2008).
